Before NFTs were ever invented, there were plenty of creators selling downloadable content on their website to their biggest fans. If they want to make them scarce, there is already web2 tech to do that, like a Kickstarter or Patreon tier with benefits limited to 100 supporters.

I'm not saying NFTs have no chance of being the digital equivalent of rare artwork/collectibles. I think that's somewhat plausible. I'm just arguing against Chris's claim that there's a "middleman take rate" that needs to be cut out.
